About
Mason Pillard, owner-operator
Mobile Metals Welding & Fab is a one-man operation by design: the person who quotes your job is the person who welds it, and the credentials behind the weld are his own.
Welding is a trade where the difference between competent and unqualified is invisible until something fails. A bead can look perfect and have no fusion underneath. An alloy repair can hold for a month and crack in the same place because the filler was wrong. That is why the training behind this business is worth talking about in detail.
The foundation is a Welding Technology Diploma from Iowa Western Community College, completed with a 4.0 GPA. That programme included extensive metallurgy coursework — the atomic structure of metals, how alloying elements change behaviour, and what actually happens to a material's microstructure under heat and stress. It is the difference between following a settings chart and understanding why the chart says what it says.
Practical experience spans TIG, MIG, SMAW and Oxy-Acetylene, with proper joint preparation, heat control and structural weld code standards applied as a matter of routine rather than when someone is watching. On top of the diploma sit an AWS aluminium metallurgy certificate, an OSHA hot work safety and permitting certificate, a full semester of dedicated safety training and a 10-hour OSHA Construction Safety card.
CAD is used on almost every project. Drawing a part before cutting it means dimensions get confirmed, you get to approve the design, and if you need the same part again in two years it can be reproduced exactly.
Mobile Metals Welding & Fab is fully insured, accepts card payments, and is available 24/6 — because equipment does not break at convenient times, and a farm or a crew that is stopped cannot wait for Monday.

Credentials in full
Welding Technology Diploma — 4.0 GPA
Iowa Western Community College. Full diploma programme completed with a 4.0 grade point average across theory, lab and code-standard weld testing.
Extensive metallurgy coursework
Atomic structure of metals, alloying elements and how base materials behave under heat and stress — the reason a weld holds up in the field instead of cracking a season later.
TIG, MIG, SMAW and Oxy-Acetylene
Experienced across all four processes, so the process is chosen to suit the material, thickness and job site conditions rather than whatever machine happens to be on the truck.
Structural weld code standards
Proper joint preparation, fit-up, heat control and interpass discipline worked to structural weld code standards.
AWS aluminium metallurgy certificate
Dedicated American Welding Society certification in aluminium metallurgy — a material that punishes guesswork on heat input and filler selection.
OSHA hot work safety & permitting certificate
Hot work permitting, fire watch and control measures for welding inside occupied buildings, grain facilities and around combustible material.
Full semester of safety training
A complete semester dedicated to shop and field safety practice, plus a 10-hour OSHA Construction Safety card.
CAD on almost every project
Parts, brackets, railings and assemblies are drawn in CAD before steel is cut, so dimensions are confirmed and repeat parts match.
Insured
Fully insured mobile operation — certificates available on request before work starts on your site.
How we work
Diagnose before repairing. A crack has a cause, and closing the gap without addressing the cause just resets the clock on the same failure. Cracks get drilled, ground out to sound metal and rebuilt — never welded over.
Match the process to the material. TIG for precision and heat-sensitive alloys, MIG for speed on clean steel, stick for dirty out-of-position field work, oxy-acetylene for cutting, heating and preheat.
Be honest about limits. If a job genuinely needs shop conditions, or a part is fatigued past safe repair, that gets said before any money is spent. A weld that will not hold is worthless.
