Design & Prototyping
Prototype Fabrication & Development
Build it, test it, refine it — before committing to a production run.
A prototype exists to find out what the drawing cannot tell you: whether it fits, whether it is comfortable to use, whether it survives real loads, and whether the assembly sequence works. Building one first is almost always cheaper than discovering the problem across a batch of twenty.
Prototype work here runs from a single proof-of-concept weldment through to a refined pre-production part with drawings updated to match what was actually learned.
Iterate deliberately
The first article is built to be modified. Joints may be tacked rather than fully welded, brackets left adjustable and dimensions left generous, so changes discovered during testing can be made without starting again.
Each round of changes is recorded back into the CAD model so the final drawing reflects the part that actually worked, not the one originally imagined.
Designing for the production version
A prototype that can only be built by hand is not much use if twenty are needed. As the design settles, part count, weld length, material use and assembly sequence are reviewed to make the production version faster and cheaper to build.
The output is a proven part plus the drawing set needed to build more of them, here or elsewhere.

On site versus shop work
Prototypes usually need to be tried where they will be used — bolted to the machine, loaded in the yard, operated by the person who will actually use it. On-site fitting and modification during testing is part of the service.
Bench work and precision fabrication of the prototype itself is done in controlled conditions; the field visits are for measurement, trial fit and iteration.
